What Have We Learned After 10 Rounds?
Season 6 of the FFO league campaign is now ten rounds old, and although plenty of football is still to be played, there has been enough action for us to ask some burning questions...
Are PSG going to be dethroned?
Look - it's early days to be suggesting anything so outlandish, and write off the French giants at your peril, but PSG do look a little more fragile than they did when they took EFL1 to the cleaners last season. They only lost five league games in Season 6, and yet they've lost four in ten to start up here. Only three teams in the league have conceded more than the 16 allowed by Mike Penders, and their average goals per game has gone down from 3.34 to 2.1 (although only Inter can better this figure). There's a whole host of teams aiming to knock Clark off his perch with Juventus leading the way, but could that scrap be to the benefit of the reigning champions with them all taking points off one another?
Are we in for an epic Premiership title race?
Even at this early stage, the answer looks to be an emphatic yes. The top four all have seven wins from the first ten games, with Manchester United leading the way and yet to be beaten, also boasting the best defensive record in the division. Chelsea and Manchester City are going with a more juggernaut approach to earn victories, with 30 and 28 goals to their name and miles clear of the next highest scorers Aston Villa who have 22. Tottenham Hotspur are well in the race in fourth, with Tim Brown looking to stir up the title fever that got the North Londoners over the line in Season 4. Outten, Talbot, Lovell and Brown look like setting up a race for the ages, but there's no doubt that clubs from the tightly packed 5th to 14th including Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa will put some form together to try and join them.
Will we lose a giant or two in the CL league stage?
This is the first season of the revamped European competitions, with sixteen teams facing off across eight league games to earn the right to make it to the qualification phase. Only one side have a 100% record - and few would have predicted that to be Blackburn Rovers, who under Chris Spero have defeated Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Fiorentina. Real have just one win from their four games and are currently in the elimination zone, while Chelsea and Man City are only just above them. The English top division has the top four spots locked out at the moment with teams sitting 8th, 9th and 12th in their domestic competition, but there's still a lot to play for.
Can we call the second tier promotion races yet?
Borussia Dortmund have shrugged off the departure of Garysean Wilson to Real Madrid, with James Bucknall winning all four league games since taking over and sending the Germans to the summit of EFL2. We were denied the spectacle of a Sam Bradwell-Garysean Wilson title race, but Schalke are doing their bit to see two German sides in EFL1 after a strong start to the campaign. Ryan Field has Lazio well positioned in third, and a mention too to Ian McNamara who has Feyenoord fifth in his debut season.
To find the most league goals this season, you'll need to head to East Anglia where Jon Banks and his Canaries sit loud and proud at the top of the Championship. They have an impressive 33 goals scored and just five conceded in a dramatic reversal of form when they came 19th of 20 in Season 5. They only have eight fewer goals than they scored in the whole of last season, and just two fewer wins. They aren't cantering away by any stretch though, with four sides within two points of Norwich including last season's nearly men Nottingham Forest, Chris Waters' Sunderland and the caretaken Wrexham and Huddersfield Town, the latter of which have only lost one game this season.
