PSG fail in bid to land Dest

A recent attempt to bring elite defender, S_Dest, back to the current EFL1 champions has failed. The French club previously owned the defender, but sold him in order to pursue their policy of low shooting defenders. It is understood that the bid was rejected by Real Madrid because they didn’t want to sell him to a rival, opting to choose an arguable weaker offer from English club, Manchester United.

The Parisians made 2 bids for the American defender

    Initially the offer was
    A_Bastoni 27 ita 1 23 21 9 22 1 833 338 103 plus £40m later increased to £60m

    With an alternative offer adding

Offering an extra passing stat and year.

We caught up with the PSG managers thoughts on the deals…

The official response from the Real Manager was “ I think my main reserve is not wanting to strengthen a rival who tbh walked the league this season and I'd like to give the high tackling stat a good go next season with some added fire power upfront.”

“I can understand his stance, but ironically, the additional xG that I was getting from the deal of approx. 0.015 goals per game (less than a goal over the season) is actually less than the extra xG that Real Madrid would get from the additional creativity from the additional passing stats of Bastoni and Doku. Taking De Light reduces the creativity even more. However, if he can make good use of the additional money, then it could potentially be a wise move. However, I am surprised at Freddies desire to pursue the higher tackling, when I believe they already had the meanest defence last season. The team scored less goals than even Fiorentina and Bayern Munich. Whilst a team is getting less passes and less shots than their rivals they will clearly fall behind, and this is what has been happening at the fallen giants. The only other manager at RM to share this view was Steve Talbot, who managed to hold his own, and stifle the PSG rise, by matching them on the stats. However, since he left the club, the current champions have typically outpassed and outshot their rival by 20% each season, and this is why they are falling behind. Any team can win a title at the expense of progression. The key is to win titles whilst getting stronger. Although it is believed by some that PSG will never dominate like AB did at Real Madrid.

I realise that most will read this as sour grapes, and yes, I am disappointed not to secure the signature of the only outfield player outside of Manchester that would improve me, but I accept I cannot sign all the good players, but if they are spread around and in a different league, then this also serves me well, and at no additional cost to me. Sometimes your best deals are the ones you don’t do.”
