In the end of the season the Red Bull Salzburg finally found a glimmer of hope. The home match with Atalanta was not expected to show a successful outcome. Still, the stadium was full to watch the P7 visitors. In the 12th minute, Bidstrup rifled a 30 yard pass down to Solet, who obliging chipped the ball into the net. Atalanta’s keeper, Perin was obviously frustrated and the stands were rocking. But RBS supporters know the fools gold that is a Salzburg lead. So many time this season the opponents have caught RBS from behind for a draw or a loss. So they settled down to see what would happen next.

As the game unfolded, Pasnik almost put another score in, but the linesman had raised the flag Atubolutu almost fumbled a save in the 21st minute, but gathered the rebound safely. Salzburg kept the pressure on with counterattacks. Atalanta may have had a slight edge on possession, but the they were out shot and out hustled by Red Bulls. In the end, the lone score was enough, and the Salzburg saluted the crowd and waved good bye as the season ended. There will be serious discussions about the roster over the next few weeks. Several players are off to another places. But I’ll give this you quote from The Shawshank Redemption “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies”
Salzburg’s hope lives on for another day.

      EFL2 promotion battle

First of all thanks to JB for running the game, putting up with a lot of shit, throwing a lot of strops and keeping things interesting.

Benfica beat Porto in the last game of the season to pile the pressure on Shakhtar but they also won with a closer then they would have liked match against Dortmund.

Porto’s loss against Benfica allowed both Union Berlin and Wolfsburg to jump them given them the advantage in the playoffs and minor prize money increases.

Union Berlin look to be favourites, winning 5 of the last 6 games but Wolfsburg won 3 on the bounce to put themselves in strong contention.

Porto seem to have faltered whilst Lazio remain inconsistent.

A big prize to play for.

      Good luck all
