A functioning night for Atletico and one that sees them incredibly through to the Champions League Final!
Atletico went into the game without key defender Botman and had to shuffle the pack to try and find a winning formula.
Atletico took the game to the home side and did appear slightly on top when Palacios opened the scoring on 41 minutes. The dream was well and truly alive on 51 when Skriniar doubled the lead and M_Odegaard (85) finished matters off. Overall on the night Atletico won the shot count 15-19 and managed to get many more of their shots on target. Overall the tie shot count was 28-20 to Atletico so certainly a 4-1 aggregate score was flattering but Atletico deserved to go through.
Manager Simon Marsh was understandably over the moon at the final whistle "We have worked hard to try and make something like this happen. Its been a fairly long process of gradually building this club from a bottom half EFL1 side to one that can challenge for trophies. We won the DPT last season and now we have the chance of going one better and landing the biggest trophy of all. The final is some way off so for now we concentrate on the league. Ironically we travel to Real again but this time without two key defenders so we will have to reshuffle again".
Atletico Madrid will face Inter Milan in the final.
Unlucky Freddie. Good luck for the rest of the season.
