    ================================================== ========================================

    We take a look at a talking point that always comes back for more and more. Goalkeepers!!
    Below is the shots per goal conceded this season along with the keeps current skill level.
    Obviously there are variances that can affect the stats - keeper injuries the main one but over a season of now 33 games this would be only a small difference.
    Generally speaking, anything about 10.00 shots per goal is pretty damn lucky and is rare to achieve over a season.

    One thing that is instantly noticeable is 2x25 raters out-performing 2x27 raters.
    The Paris and Atletico manager have much complained in the media with regards to how their supposed super-keepers are performing this season.
    Atletico now takes the honour or being the worst performing 27-rated in the league along with the worst abs collector!

    Not sure whether the Celtic keeper is turning up for matchdays drunk!

    Atletico Madrid 5 Monaco 2

    With home and tactical advantage against Monaco hopes were high of a comfortable win. A shot count of 37-15 should see a comfortable win. In truth this game wasnt won until the 80th minute after the home side missed chance after chance and Martinez biscuit wrists continued his woeful form.

    R_K_Muani (29,31), Y_Pino (45), E_Palacios (80), M_Skriniar (82) were the goalscorers on the day.

    Cristante comes back from suspension. Botman remains injured for one more game. The suspension issue with 6 players all on the brink of missing games has now eased with that number down to 3. Hopefully some of those players can get booked sooner than later to avoid a champions league final disaster.

    Manager Simon Marsh commented "We got in the end which i guess it all that counts. Five more goals is great and we will finish at worst 9th place. We could yet finish 5th with a good end to the season and next up is Inter who we have a chance of overtaking. A defeat will ensure the best we can do is 6th.

    Atletico Madrid 5 Napoli 3

    With some recent patchy form not helped by player absentees a home game against the bottom of the league who have been playing the same tactics for many weeks was the order of the day. Issue one, Napoli changed tactics, issue two, Atletico tested the waters of playing their 24-rated goalkeeper at 2-0 up and the consequences were almost a total disaster. Other teams seem to be able to play anyone in goal and get decent performances but Urbig was atrocious. 3 goals conceded in 59 minutes against a side who scored less than a goal a game this season and were taking over 16 shots to score a goal this season. Crazy but this is Atletico....its become the normal to just expect anything over the past couple of seasons of bad luck. Thankfully with the help of an own goal and a late goal Atletico got the job done but this result just enforces what an up and down season it has been.

    Manager Simon Marsh commented "Martinez has struggled all season and its well documented that he is simply not gaining skill. We felt at 2-0 we could afford to give Urbig a chance to develop a little but it completely back-fired on us. The three points does at least keep us up in 7th place with Marseille performing miracles and Lisbon having a great season. We have picked up yet another 2 week injury to add to another suspension and so it will be more tinkering needed for the next game".

    Real Madrid 4 Atletico Madrid 1

    With key defensive injuries this game was always going to be a struggle. The debate was whether to go with the strongest 11 which would mean playing with 5 attacking players and possibly suicide away at a giant of the game or to include Adopo in a defensive midfield place, a squaddie who would soon be leaving the club. In the end Marsh plumped for the strongest-11. It appeared to be going to plan when Atletico opened the scoring on 7 minutes, Rodrygo levelled on 19. Both sides traded chances but it was not until 61 minutes when Marsh decided to try and hold the 1 point by bringing the more defensive Adopo that the game completely changed. The change simply didnt work with Real scoring on 73,73 and 78 minutes to give themselves a very flattering 4-1 victory. An 18-13 shot count, expected on team Atletico could select did not justify a savage beating and once again 27-rated Martinez completely under-performed.

    Marsh commented "Wow. We knew it would be hard but we I didnt expect a capitulation like that. Perhaps we should have stuck with the side and tried to go for the win but I think anyone would have grabbed a point at Real and we tried to cement it. A terrible defeat overall that sees Real pull away to point that we are unlikely to catch them now. We again must look one eye over our shoulder with Marseille and Lisbon doing so well. I thought the top-8 was more or less bagged but football can change very quickly indeed and we need a couple of wins again as soon as possible to keep us up there".
